2010 - 2013 Town Council


The Town of Sedgewick Council consists of 6 councillors and mayor.  The current term runs from October 2010 to October 2013.

Town Council sets policy and directions for town administration.

Council Meetings
Council Meetings are held the third Thursday of every month (some exceptions apply) at the Town Office. (4818 – 47 St.) at 7:00 pm. Meetings are open to the Public. (Sec. 198 MGA)

Personal Biography ~ I was born and raised in Lougheed, AB and graduated from Central High School in Sedgewick.  I married Bert Whitten from Viking in 1956 and moved to Sedgewick in 1957.  Bert and I have 6 children – all whom attended Sedgewick School.  We currently have 16 grandchildren and a Jack Russell called Mikey.

Community Involvement ~ I have been very involved in the community for many years.  I was president of the Kinette Club the year the club won the Rose Bowl and helped start the first kindergarten in Sedgewick.  I assisted informing the Flagstaff branch of the Canadian Cancer Society.  I have been chairman of the Rec Board; president of the Senior’s Club; Chairman of the Board of Education 1987 – 1990; on the Board of Education for the County of Flagstaff 1983 – 1992.  Also I have been involved with the Ag Society organizing the Bench Show at Agri-days; I have been a judge for the Canadian Figure Skating Assoc.; I was Vice Chair of the Parkland Library Board both as a representative for Flagstaff Board of Education and for the Town of Sedgewick.  As a member of the Sedgewick Historical Society, I helped edit the History book (Sedgewick Sentinel) and organized the Homecoming launch of the book.  In October 2007, I was elected Mayor of the Town of Sedgewick.  Upon my election I issued the following message in the Town newsletter.
“I am truly please to have been elected as Mayor of the Town of Sedgewick.  Throughout the next three years, I hope to work with the town council, administration and you the public to continue to see Sedgewick grow as the great community it is.  Bert and I have lived in Sedgewick for 50 years and have raised our family here.  I hope that my experience as a volunteer over the years, will influence my mayoral outlook.  I look forward to the next 3 years.”
I enjoy meeting people and promoting Sedgewick as a good community in which to live and volunteer.

Tom Chaisson
Tom Chaisson

Personal Biography ~ I was born in Codroy Valley, Newfoundland and moved to Alberta in 1998 working in Lloydminster and Fort McMurray before settling into Sedgewick in November of 2002.  He married Betty Campbell Chaisson and enjoys being a proud parent to David, Chelsea and Jonathon.
Tom’s been actively involved in various phases of Electrical field since 1983, at first as an Inter Provincial Journeyman Electrician and then acquired his certification as a Master Electrician and opening his own company Tookalook Electric to serve the community.  I was proud to be elected in for a 3 year term as a member of the Town Council in October 2010.

Community Involvement ~ I have held positions as Equipment Manager in both the local Cobra’s Fastball Organization and the Battle River Football Association while our children were involved in both programs.  I’m also proud to be a part of the Sedgewick Historical Society in the effort to maintaining a sound record of our past for future generations. 
I am most interested in being part of the team to insure the long vitality of our town through good planning and sound financial management while working closer with the community, strengthening the ties we have, and attracting quality companies and residents to our town.  I am proud to be a part of our community and feel very fortunate and grateful to be able to live my life in such a great place.

Cory Gagnon
Cory Gagnon

Personal Biography ~ I was born and raised in Camrose, Alberta, where I attended school.  I had started working as an apprentice electrician and took my schooling at NAIT, Lethbridge College & Lakeland College and am now a journeyman electrician.  I currently work in the oilfield as a oil battery operator for Harvest Operations.  I have been working for Harvest for the past 11years.  I moved to Sedgewick in 1997.  I am married to Paula and we have three boys –Josh, Brett and Jordan.  I also have a daughter Courtney.  I enjoy spending time with my family and I like to play hockey, golf and watch sports.  We enjoy going camping in the summer.|

Community Involvement ~ This is my second term as a councilor for the Town of Sedgewick.  I have been on the Town of Sedgewick Volunteer Fire Department since 2002.

Barb McArthur
Barb McArthur

Personal Biography ~ I was born in Hardisty, Alberta and moved to Sedgewick at the age of 4.  I attended Sedgewick School until grade 6.  I moved north of Sedgewick and finished my schooling in Kinsella and Viking.  I attended the U of A in Edmonton and received a Bachelor of Education Degree.  I taught school in Beaver County and Inuvik, NWT.  I returned to Sedgewick in 1977 and have lived here since.  I was married to Claude and raised 4 children, Pat (Hamm), Rick, Rob and James and now have 9 grandchildren.  I enjoy spending time with family and watching my grandchildren grow up.  I also enjoy sewing, scrapbooking, bowling and traveling.

Community Involvement ~ Over the years in Sedgewick, I have been involved in Minor Hockey and Ball, Girl Guides, Cubs and Scouts, Sedgewick Legion, Community Hall Board, Treasurer of the Ladies Bowling Leagues as well as Treasurer of the Sedgewick United Church, and Secretary/Treasurer of the Hardisty Lake U.C Camp.  I joined Town Council in 2007, and during this term on Council, I enjoyed meeting and working with many people from other municipalities.

Clem St. Pierre

Personnel Biography ~ My name is Clem St. Pierre.  I am married to Barb and we live at #2 McLean Crescent West in Sedgewick.  We have four grown children and nine grandchildren.  We chose Sedgewick for our retirement home because we felt that it offered all of the amenities that we would require in the future.  We relocated to Sedgewick in 2007 from Edmonton and I retired at that time.  I was elected to Town Council on October 18, 2010.
I have held positions in the Banking and Financial Industries, worked in the Insolvency profession, and owned and operated several small businesses.  I have worked and lived in small and medium sized towns as well as cities.  I find the people in our community to be friendly and proud of the available amenities.  I look forward to assisting in the continuing development of those community assets.  I am interested in the Town’s financial affairs including taxation and other revenue and expense categories.

Community Involvement ~ Since we have moved to Sedgewick we have become involved in several different groups in the community.  These include the Sedgewick Lions, Sedgewick Royal Canadian Legion, Sedgewick Senior’s Club and the Senior Bowling League.

David Wylie
David Wylie

Personal Biography ~ David Wylie was born in Wetaskiwin and raised in the Lougheed area.  After finishing his schooling, he worked in several different jobs, before settling into farming,  David is married to Sharon and they have 2 children, Janie and Michael, as well as 5 grandchildren – Marisa, Katie, Cole, Nicholaus and Hannah, and 1 great-grandson – Mason.
David stopped farming in 1989, to become a grain buyer and then retired when the elevators were closed.
He enjoys time spent with his family, likes to golf, bowl and play crib.  He also loves the outdoors and spends many hours walking in the woods.

Community Involvement ~ David has served the Town of Sedgewick as a councillor for many years and as Mayor for 5 years from 1999 to 2004.  He has sat on numerous boards and committees associated with Town Council.  David has been involved in the community as a member of the Kinsmen Club, Sedgewick Mixed and Senior bowling leagues and the local Golf Club.
