Property Taxes in the Town of Sedgewick - 2010

WHAT ARE THE TAX RATES IN SEDGEWICK? - On May 20, 2010 Town Council passed Bylaw # 469, which sets the tax rates for the 2010 property taxes. There are two tax rate classes, residential and non-residential. Both of these classes are comprised of three portions; Municipal, Education, and Seniors Lodge Accommodation.
In 2010 the average residential assessments decreased 5%. The Town of Sedgewick has determined that to raise the necessary budgeted funds, the tax rate for 2010 has been set at 9.3663 mills for residential properties and 11.0311 mills for non-residential properties.
The 2010 tax rates are as follows:
Residential 9.3663(.0093663 mills)
Non-Residential 11.0311(.0110311 mills)
Property taxes collected are apportioned as follows:
Municipal Purposes –The Town of Sedgewick administration and council determine how much money is needed to operate the Town for the operating year.
Municipal 2010 - 7.0664 mills Residential / 7.0053 mills Non-Residential
Seniors Lodge Accomodation -Each year Flagstaff Regional Housing Group requisition an amount to be collected from each property within the Region including the Town of Sedgewick to assist in operating costs for Seniors Housing.
S.F. 2010 - 0.2106 mills
EDUCATION TAX - The amount of education tax that each municipality must collect from property taxes is determined by the Provincial Government of Alberta. This amount is pooled and then distributed to all Alberta School Boards on an equal per-student basis. Education property taxes are not subject to control or evaluation by the Town and support both the public and separate school systems. All residential and non-residential property owners pay education property taxes.

PAYMENT OF TAXES
Although Taxes are levied part way through the year, the taxes you are paying are for January 1 –December 31 of 2010. Taxes are due and payable on July 30, 2010.
The Town of Sedgewick has two tax payment options for you to consider.
Budgeted Tax Payments – You can pay equal monthly payments throughout the year. Please contact the town office at 780 384 3504 to set up your budgeted amount. As per Bylaw # 459 passed Dec 4, 2008; Monthly payments can only be started in January of any year.
Discounted Payments & Tax Prepayment – The Town of Sedgewick's discount program has been discontinued as of 2009 as per Bylaw #459. Taxes may be prepaid at any time during the year.
